Opening Ceremonies at NCCC - Sacramento Campus
Through a partnership with AmeriCorps NCCC - Sacramento Campus and CAP Center AmeriCorps Programs, our first annual AmeriCorps Week activities were held on May 14th, 2010. By any measure the event was a great success!!!
Over 80 current members, Alumni and program staff gathered at the NCCC Campus to hear from speakers during our morning opening ceremony. Speakers included current AmeriCorps members serving with NCCC, and the Youth Investment Center (YIC) project, as well as Dr. Dian Kiser, VISTA Alum (1966-1969). Service Projects
Alums & current members serve side-by-side at the Food Ba
After Opening Cermonies concluded, Members, Alums and Community Members set off to serve at one of the five community service projects that had been organized for the day. Teams participated in a restoration project at Brooktree Park in Citrus Heights, Community Clean-up activities with non-profit partners, SERNA Village, RAFT, and St. Johns Shelter, and Food Bag preparation with the Sacramento Food Bank.
Each of the three branches of AmeriCorps were represented as members from AmeriCorps State and National programs: (GreatBeginnings, Youth Investment Center, First 5 Service Corps, and Child Welfare Systems Improvement), served alongside members from NCCC and AmeriCorps VISTA. Many committed Alumni also joined in the service project activities, including several staff at the Sacramento Food Bank Site. The projects were an incredible success!
